  • Software AG’s Adabas & Natural technology will be a fundamental component of the extremely critical central MES (manufacturing execution system).
  • The technology is already successfully in use at the company's Dresden facility and will be mirrored one-to-one for sustainable, stable growth

Infineon Technologies AG is a world leader in semiconductor solutions that focuses on energy efficiency, mobility and security. To ensure its sustainable growth over the long term, the company has invested in a new, fully automated chip production facility in Villach, Austria, which will have around 60,000 m² of floor space when completed. This will also create around 400 new jobs for highly skilled workers. Construction began in the first half of 2019 and is well under way. Infineon is using the automation and digitalization concepts from its Dresden location in the new Villach facility, choosing Software AG’s Adabas & Natural technology.

Infineon is preparing for long-term sustainable growth and is investing €1.6 billion in a new, fully automated factory for producing 300-millimeter thin wafer chips in Villach, Austria, in the coming years. Construction began in the first half of 2019 and is slated to finish in early 2021. The new manufacturing system will be a clone of the one in Dresden, which has proved to be very stable and efficient, using Software AG’s Adabas & Natural technology as a fundamental component of the extremely critical central manufacturing execution system (IFX Core MES System).

"Chip production is extremely complex and requires perfect cooperation, uncompromising quality and professionalism in all of our processes,” said Hansjörg Sonnleitner, Vice President, Operational Servies IT Systems at Infineon. “Our new factory in Villach will apply the digitalization concepts from Dresden and collaborate on their ongoing development. With Adabas & Natural, we have a stable platform that meets all of the requirements in our production environment and ensures that we can take full advantage of the synergies at both locations over the long term."

Software AG’s Adabas & Natural products are mature and proven technologies that can be used in a highly complex and high-availability semiconductor production environment and can be combined seamlessly with the most modern software products and solutions. Infineon uses NoSQL technology from Adabas for effective storage and fast access to its measurement data matrix from all product areas for chip production automation.

Dr. Stefan Sigg, Chief Product Officer of Software AG said: “Adabas is designed for processing huge transaction volumes, delivers extremely high performance and enables absolute reliability in processing company transactions. We are thrilled that Infineon will be using our technology in its important innovation site in Villach. It demonstrates that this is a future proof technology that will be in use for many years and ensure the highest quality in production.”
