  • Software AG and 9 other vendors evaluated on Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision
  • Software AG positioned highest for execution in the Magic Quadrant
  • Alfabet product for strategic portfolio management also available as entry-level solution

Gartner, Inc., a company that delivers actionable, objective insights to executives and their teams named Software AG a Leader in its 2023 “Magic Quadrant for Strategic Portfolio Management,” published on April 25, 2023*. This is the third year this Magic Quadrant has been published and the second consecutive year that Software AG has been placed in the Leaders quadrant. Software AG is positioned highest in the Magic Quadrant for its Ability to Execute.

Stefan Sigg, chief product officer and member of the Board, Software AG, noted:
“We are pleased with Gartner recognition of Software AG as a Leader in the strategic portfolio management (SPM) market. We believe the growing interest in SPM comes from companies’ need to rethink and redesign technology strategies to support new business and workplace demands. New working paradigms triggered by the pandemic, Agile development methods required for quick delivery of digital business solutions, ESG-motivated business strategies and increased cyber threats – these initiatives call for the ability to quickly adapt the IT portfolio while ensuring business alignment and architectural soundness. Our Alfabet SPM platform provides the insights needed to give business and IT executives confidence that their IT change decisions are made on solid ground.”

The Gartner report says of Leaders: “Leaders execute well against their current vision and are well positioned for tomorrow.”

SPM is the ongoing process that focuses and aligns a company’s IT resources with its strategic business goals. As such it supports many and varied company initiatives requiring changes to the IT landscape in support of business strategy. These include initiatives for topics such as cloud migration strategy planning, IT cost reduction, sustainability in IT, innovation management and IT risk management. Companies of varying sizes and across a range of IT maturity grapple with the complexity inherent to the IT changes needed to address these topics. Software AG addresses this diversity with support from a range of offerings from its entry-level, pre-configured Alfabet FastLane product to a fully configurable enterprise offering.

Software AG was also named a Leader in the Gartner 2022 “Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Architecture Tools”**.

Software AG stands by the principle that enterprise architecture management (EAM) and SPM are essential disciplines for bridging strategy and execution. By building the SPM practice on an enterprise architecture foundation, the interdependencies identified by EAM are used to understand the impact of change in any one portfolio on other portfolios. With consistent, continual practice of these interrelated disciplines, with EAM’s single source of truth and central platform for all change agents and stakeholders, and SPM’s change impact discoveries and strategy-to-execution chain of activities, a company can accelerate execution of the business strategy, achieve greater cost efficiencies and build resilience to operational risks and strategic setbacks.
