Professor Dr. Albrecht Schmidt is joining Software AG’s Scientific Advisory Board

Darmstadt, Germany - Today Software AG introduces the newest member of its Scientific Advisory board. Dr. Albrecht Schmidt is a distinguished professor of computer science at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and has held the chair for Human-Centered Ubiquitous Media since 2017. He was selected in 2020 to become a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. Dr. Schmidt is replacing Prof. Dr. Friedemann Mattern on the Scientific Advisory Board, who is stepping down after completing his three-year term.

How can digital technologies be used to expand human capabilities? This is one of the central questions at the heart of Prof. Dr. Albrecht Schmidt’s research. Dr. Schmidt enjoys a distinguished reputation as a scientist and was proposed for Software AG's Scientific Advisory Board due to his expertise in human-computer interaction, ubiquitous computer systems and media technology to support the company with his profound knowledge.

I'm looking forward to the professional and personal exchange with my colleagues," said Prof. Dr. Schmidt after his appointment. "The range of subject-matter expertise here is enormous and I'm certain it will lead to very lively and productive discussions that benefit all sides."

"I'm thrilled that we were able to get Prof. Dr. Schmidt on our team of top scientists," noted Prof. Wahlster, Advisory Board Chairman, on the announcement of its newest member. "His research focuses without fail on the human users of IT systems and aims to adapt to their individual preferences and cognitive restrictions. Dr. Schmidt has successfully implemented next-generation adaptive human-computer interfaces with methods of machine learning."

"Prof. Dr. Schmidt works and conducts research in the IoT field and cofounded a start-up during his time in Stuttgart," adds Dr. Stefan Sigg, member of the Management Board and Chief Product Officer at Software AG. We’re looking forward to the collaboration and interesting synergies that will arise in this context."

Software AG's Scientific Advisory Board meets four times a year and was created to be able to address and categorize future trend topics in a highly dynamic industry from a scientific and business standpoint. Its primary task is to give Software AG a scientific perspective on technology trends—and in so doing incorporate momentum and innovation from outside. The technology company’s customers benefit first and foremost from these efforts, as the discourse on scientific research complements Software AG's strategic development and product planning.

The Scientific Advisory Board supports Software AG’s activities in areas including artificial intelligence, security, blockchain, Internet of Things, 5G, software engineering and quality. It also examines operational and economic issues such as different forms of business model transformation from an information-systems perspective in this context.
