            Zero Defects Manufacturing Platform (ZDMP)

European Excellence in Manufacturing Through the ZDMP Industry 4.0 Platform

Software AG (Frankfurt, MDAX: SOW) today announced the Zero Defects Manufacturing Platform (ZDMP), which was launched in January 2019 for 48 months with an investment of 19M€ provided by 30 sponsoring companies and the European Commission. Its mission is to develop and establish a digital platform and related apps for achieving excellence in manufacturing through zero defect processes and products. Software AG will contribute its webMethods Hybrid Integration Platform and Cumulocity IoT to support ZDMP with data acquisition, integration, interoperability and IIoT capabilities. In addition, Software AG is leading the Ambassador Program for the ZDMP project.

Industry 4.0 is fundamentally transforming the manufacturing industry through the proliferation of new digital solutions applied along the production process chain. As the telephone evolved into the smart phone, ZDMP will drive the evolution of the factory into the Smart Factory and the Smart Zero Defect factory.

Stuart Campbell, CEO of Information Catalyst and Manager of ZDMP, stated: “ZDMP will ensure that European industry remains competitive and keeps its leading manufacturing position by producing high-quality products at a low cost in the most efficient way.” Mr. Harald Schöning, Vice President Software AG, says that “ZDMP will leverage the power of the Industrial Internet of Things and of Artificial Intelligence to create an open, extensible, interoperable and elastic platform that can enable any European manufacturing company of any size to optimize its production and thus strengthen its position in the global market.”

ZDMP will prove its value in industrial demonstrators from the automotive, machine tools, electronics, and construction industries. These will illustrate how deeper cooperation between companies can reduce and avoid defects in products and processes along various supply chains. The sponsoring organizations will also release 3.2M€ throughout the program to additional partners, users and technology companies, to further enhance both the platform features and trigger the adoption of the platform on the market.

The ZDMP Project combines state-of-the-art technological approaches based on commercial-grade standard or open-source software with an open development approach and app store. It will focus on both process and product quality modules for pre-production, production, and post-production quality issues to enable zero-defect manufacturing.

Software AG will contribute its webMethods Hybrid Integration Platform and Cumulocity IoT to support the ZDMP with data acquisition, integration, interoperability and IIoT capabilities. In addition, Software AG is leading the Ambassador Program for the ZDMP project. The Ambassador Program targets early adopters and lead users to encourage SMEs in particular to become users of the ZDMP results.

The project is coordinated by Research Center UNINOVA and concepted and managed by SME Information Catalyst (ICE). Along with Software AG, other leading partners include: Ford, Continental, Mondragon Assembly, HSD, FIDIA, Formplast, Consugal, PT Mills, Flexeflina, CEI, AlfaTest, Ceteck, Video Systems, Ascora, Profactor, Softeco, Etxe-Tar, Ikerlan, ITI, and Rooter. The Polytechnic University of Valencia, Tampere University, and Southampton University as well as the German Standards Organization DIN are providing support. Partners Martinrea Honsel, Siveco and ALONG are expected to shortly join the consortium.

About ZDMP
The Zero Defect Manufacturing Platform project (ZDMP) was launched in Q1 2019 for 48 months with an investment of 19M€ provided by the 30 sponsoring companies and the European Commission. Partner companies and other information can be found at www.zdmp.eu. ZDMP is a Research and Innovation activity that emerged in response to a European Commission H2020 call on Industry 4.0 and Factories of the Future under grant agreement 825631. It is a Digital Manufacturing Platform to facilitate zero defect manufacturing in connected smart factories, including SMEs, and its aim is to further Europe’s position in the manufacture of high-quality products.
